ABOUT US

The Downland Volunteer Group (DVG) was founded in 1986 and operated from an old scout hut in Compton. Today we have more comfortable surroundings, being situated in a small office within the Doctor’s surgery, in Compton High Street.

We were set up to help people who are “elderly, sick or disabled, or anyone of any age who are otherwise in need”.

We are a registered company and registered charity and are run solely by volunteers.

In return for a donation towards our costs, we are able to help with transport to hospitals, doctors’ surgeries, opticians, dentists, and even shopping.

The Downland Volunteer Group acknowledges the generous support received from West Berkshire Council in their annual allocation of the Community Support Grant. This reduces our overhead costs which benefits Downland residents who require our service.

We also own a HandeBus that does regular shopping trips, outings etc. We acknowledge the support we receive from the Department for Transport which helps keep the fares we charge as low as possible.
