HandeBus Overview
The HandeBus (formerly the Handybus) is so named as it is 100% electric helping to improve the environment. It is a 12-seater vehicle offering a bespoke service to residents in the Downland villages. Passengers get collected from their homes and driven to the shops or other venues. Our friendly drivers will help load shopping on and off the vehicle and if required carry it to their front door.
The HandeBus is used for regular weekly shopping trips to local town centres, supermarkets and other venues, as well as additional trips from time to time. Passenger fares are set depending on the journey, and passengers may make an additional contribution, which are used to help offset the running costs of the bus. All our drivers are unpaid volunteers.
The HandeBus is ideal for passengers with mobility issues. It is equipped with easy access side steps and air conditioning in summer and heating in winter. in addition, it can carry up to two wheelchair users and their carers as it is fitted with a hydraulic tail lift.
All villages in the Downland area are covered, though it does need enough interest and support from the village to make regular trips viable.
